THE OFFSPRING’S SELF ESTEEM ON MP3

from:

The Offspring is a punk rock or alternative rock group from Orange County, California. Their music is a mixture of ska, grunge and heavy metal. Though the band has also been accused of going into mainstream punk. Their band popularized the hits “Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)”,
“Why Don’t You Get a Job”, “She’s Got Issues”, “Self Esteem”, “Gotta Get Away” and “Come Out and Play”. The first three singles were from the 1998 album “Americana” while the last three were from the break-out album “Smash”.

Incidentally, “Smash” also set the record for the most number of sales (at eight million copies) by an independent label. “Smash” was produced by Bad Religion guitarist Bret Gurewitz under his outfit, Epitaph Records. From Epitaph, the band made a controversial move to Columbia Records where they recorded the albums “Ixnay on the Hombre” in 1997 and “Americana” in 1998.

The band is composed of Bryan “Dexter” Holland on vocals and rhythm guitar, Greg “Greg K” Kriesel on bass, Kevin “Noodle” Wasserman on lead and Atom Willard on drums. The band was founded by Holland and Kriesel in 1984 and together with Wasserman, formed “Manic Subcidal”. It was only in 1987 when they had their name changed to “The Offspring” with then drummer James Lilja.

In 2000, the band released the album “Conspiracy of One” under Columbia Records and wanted to have the entire album downloadable on the internet to show their support for it.

However, this was not allowed by Columbia. MP3s of The Offspring’s “Self Esteem”, as well as other hits such a “Pretty Fly (for a white guy)”, etc are currently available on the net. These can either be downloaded for free with servers such as limewire or it can also be downloaded for a fee for premium services.

The lyrics of the song “Self-Esteem” is as follows:

I wrote her off for the tenth time today

And practice all the things I would say

But she came over

I lost my nerve

I took her back and made her dessert

Now I know I’m being used

That’s okay man cause I like the abuse

I know she’s playing with me

That’s okay cause I got no self esteem

We make plans to go out at night

I wait till 2 then I turn out the light

All this rejection’s got me so low

If she keeps it up I just might tell her no

Chorus

When she’s saying that she wants only me

Then I wonder why she sleeps with my friends

When she’s saying that I’m like a disease

Then I wonder how much more I can spend

Well I guess I should speak up for myself

But I really think it’s better this way

The more you suffer

The more it shows you really care

Right? yeah yeah yeah

Now I’ll relate this little bit

That happens more than I’d like to admit

Late at night she knocks on my door

Drunk again and looking to score

Now I know I should say no

But that’s kind of hard when she’s ready to go

I may be dumb

But I’m not a dweeb

I’m just a sucker with no self esteem

66 responses to Biti can fool some, but not all of us

Nowhere in Moyos narrative do we find anything any wrong doing by Biti or lack of good judgement. I only see waning arrogance of someone shamed in Moyos less convincing brashness. He has people to please and no words for their pleasure so he draws little pictures of failure on successiful people.
